This was a fabulous week all around! It started off with Sara’s birthday on July 6th. To celebrate with went to see the Cat Circus with some friends, Chris and Arlene. Afterwards, we went out to eat at a place that has both regular and vegan “chicken” wings (made from seitan). (Sara is eating vegan now.) The show was super cute, and the wings were delicious! We had a fund time trying to open this surprise birthday thing that Chris and Arlene bought Sara – they weren’t even sure exactly what it was, but you pounded on the back of the envelope and a surprise was supposed to come out. It didn’t work very well, but eventually we did get an inflated “Happy Birthday” plastic speech bubble!

Although I didn’t have any doctor appointments for myself this week, Sara had some very important appointments. On Monday July 8th we took her in for her first CT scan since she began treatment for her cancer. On Wednesday the 10th, we met with her oncologist to review the results. It turns out she is responding wonderfully to the chemotherapy!! Her cancer has shrunk across the board – it is out of her lymph nodes and significantly reduced in her lungs and in her reproductive system. We agreed that the plan for going forward will be 3 additional sessions of chemo, then another reevaluation. The oncologist thinks that there’s a good chance that this will eliminate the remaining cancer in Sara’s lungs and allow him to then remove all remaining cancer with a hysterectomy.

Sara is working so hard at getting healthy and strong for the baby’s arrival; we’re incredibly pleased that her treatments are doing what we hoped.
